CSM
Crossroads Student Movement
The last weekend for Crossroads Student Movement (CSM) is May 26-27. Over the summer, we are re-tooling our ministries for middle school and high school students to bring you and your family new and exciting ways to engage with God at Crossroads. This summer, we encourage all middle and high school students to attend weekend services with their families. Look for details about our new Middle School and High School ministry programs over the next few months.
Here’s an overview of what students will experience when our new programs begin late summer:
Middle School Ministry—coming in August
Beginning in August, kids in grades 6-8 can be a part of Crossroads’ new Middle School Ministry. Middle School, which will meet at all sites, will follow a regular flow each week—hang out time, music, a message about who God is and how middle schoolers fit into God’s story, and a chance for them to talk about what they’re learning in small groups led by adult volunteers.
FAQ:
My child was getting ready to go into sixth grade, which was Area 56. What does that mean for her?
Your sixth grader will go to Middle School Ministry starting with move-up weekend in August.
Is Middle School Ministry the same as CSM?
It’s a new program with new vision and leadership. The format will be similar to Area 56, in that there is a specific rhythm to every week, but the programming is adjusted to keep middle schoolers engaged. Middle School Ministry is like CSM, in that there will be adult volunteers who will build into your kids each week.
Is CSM going away?
The last weekend for CSM is May 26-27, but Crossroads remains committed to meeting the needs of middle and high school students, so we’ll introduce new programming in late summer for both age groups.
Will my sixth graders be hanging out with high schoolers?
No; the Middle School Ministry will meet separately from the High School Ministry.
At which services will the new Middle School Ministry be offered?
It will be offered at most service times. Look for more details about Middle School Ministry later this summer.
High School Ministry- coming in August
Instead of a having a separate service, high school students are invited to enjoy the weekend experience in the main Auditorium with their parents. They’ll still hear a message that’s relevant to them, and families will be learning together. Then, starting in August, we’ll add things like small groups (pods), teen-specific Community Groups and some social events, that will allow students to connect, hang out with one another and dig a little deeper.

Is CSM going away?

Why is there no separate service for teens?
We believe that the regular weekend service is our best teaching platform, so why try to duplicate it? The messages are relevant to both teens and adults, and Brian and Chuck tell enough bad jokes to keep high schoolers engaged. We believe that having parents and teens hear the same message can foster great conversations at home. We also found that most teens already were going to the weekend service rather than attending CSM.
How will students connect with friends if they are not in CSM?
One easy way is to invite friends to service and sit together. There will also be other opportunities to hang out, besides just the weekend service. There will still be pods and Community Groups, similar to what CSM has done in the past. There will also be larger social events where all high school students and their leaders will come together as a big group to celebrate and hang out.
What is a pod?
A pod is a small group, led by an adult, which allows students to connect with each other and really build relationships. Pods are safe environments where students can go deeper and apply what they have learned on the weekend. Each pod would determine on its own where and when to meet, much like adult small groups do. Crossroads will provide materials and resources to help leaders facilitate the pods.
What kind of social events will there be?
We haven’t planned out all the details yet, but some kind of event will happen about every other month in the current CSM space. These celebrations will allow students and leaders to come together as a large community, to get to know each other and to just have fun. These will also be great opportunities for students to invite their friends to come and check out Crossroads and see what we’re all about.
How do Community Groups fit in?
Much like the adult Community Groups, the ones for high school students will focus on specific topics for a predetermined amount of time. The groups will be designed either just for teens, or for teens and their parents, and will touch on things like spiritual training and healing. The groups will be offered seasonally, most likely at the same time adult groups are offered.
